Senior Accountant

The Senior Accountant is responsible for overseeing key aspects of the monthly financial close and maintaining the accuracy of the general ledger. This role involves taking full ownership of recurring accounting processes, ensuring compliance with internal controls, and contributing to continuous improvement efforts within the department. The Senior Accountant works independently and cross-functionally to support financial accuracy, analysis, and reporting. 

Duties:

  • Lead the monthly close process, including preparation and review of journal entries, accruals, and balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Maintain the integrity of the general ledger, ensuring accurate, complete, and timely financial data.
  • Research and interpret changes in U.S. GAAP and accounting standards; implement necessary process or reporting updates to ensure compliance.
  • Develop and maintain recurring accrual models and key accounting estimates, refining based on actual results.
  • Compile and deliver the monthly financial reporting package, including variance analysis and insightful commentary for leadership review.
  • Provide accounting data and support during budgeting and forecasting cycles, including actual-to-plan comparisons.
  • Support cost accounting functions, including standard cost maintenance and variance analysis.
  • Maintain and update fixed asset records using Fixed Asset CS or equivalent software.
  • Ensure compliance with J-SOX internal controls; support documentation, walkthroughs, and testing.
  • Assist with annual audits by preparing requested schedules and responding to auditor inquiries.
  • Serve as a liaison to internal departments, providing financial data and accounting guidance as needed.
  • Identify and implement process improvement opportunities that enhance efficiency and accuracy.
  • Support the Accounts Payable process by assigning appropriate general ledger codes to purchase orders.
  • Maintain clear documentation of procedures and update process instructions as needed.
  • Perform ad hoc financial analyses and respond to internal and external data requests related to assigned responsibilities.

Competencies:

  • Solid knowledge of U.S. GAAP and internal control frameworks.
  • Advanced MS Excel skills (Pivot Tables, index(match), xlookups) SQL/PowerPivot is a plus
  • Desire to help to automate, streamline and document processes.
  • Attention to detail
  • Analytical skills, creative problem solving ability, communication skills, and a personal commitment to quality.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities effectively.
  • Experience in a manufacturing or standard cost environment is preferred.

Working Conditions:

  • The physical environment requires associate to walk through a high traffic production area and warehouse when needed requiring the use of personal protective equipment (safety shoes and safety glasses).
