How Tariffs Are Affecting Belt Manufacturing and Our Response

At MBL (USA) CORPORATION, we’re proud to employ more than 200 area residents at our facility, including several inspiring individuals from Friendship House in Ottawa, Illinois. Even though we’re part of a larger international organization, we remain a small company at heart—committed to building more than just exceptional power transmission belts. We’re building opportunity, inclusion, and community.

With 18 sales offices and 12 manufacturing plants worldwide, we are backed by the strength of a global brand yet driven by local values. We take pride in engineering belts that deliver outstanding performance and durability—products that meet the demanding standards of our OEM and distributor partners. To do this efficiently and responsibly, we manufacture different product lines at strategically located facilities across the globe, including plants in Japan, Indonesia, China, India, Thailand, Singapore, Poland, and here in the United States. This global footprint allows us to source raw materials efficiently, meet regional demand, and stay close to the OEMs we serve. The result is consistent quality, improved availability, and competitive pricing for our customers.

Many of the belts sold in the U.S. are imported from these international facilities. However, recent changes in trade policy have led to increased tariffs on key materials such as cord, rubber, and fabric, as well as the finished belts themselves. These rising costs are placing a significant strain on production and importation—making it commercially impracticable to maintain current pricing without affecting product quality or availability.

This is a challenge being felt across the industry. Other manufacturers that rely on imported materials and finished goods are experiencing the same cost pressures, as the tariffs affect the entire supply chain. We continue to monitor the situation closely and will adapt as needed to mitigate long-term impacts.

We sincerely appreciate your understanding and continued partnership as we navigate these global challenges together—while staying true to what matters most: our employees, our customers, and our community.
